Six-Hour Stipendiary Lectureship in Classics: Latin Language & Literature
Balliol College, University of Oxford
Application deadline: 18th May 2016
Balliol College proposes, if a suitable candidate applies, to appoint a stipendiary six-hour Lecturer in Latin Language & Literature for the first two terms of the academic year 2016-17. The post is for two terms, October 2016 to March 2017 (to cover a period of sabbatical leave) and carries with it no expectation of renewal.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach six hours per week on average during term time. He or she will receive an annual stipend of £12,885, subject to annual review [£8,590 pro rata for the two terms]. In addition, the Lecturer will be entitled to some Senior Common Room rights, and will have access to a shared teaching room in College.
The College hopes to appoint a Latinist who would be able to teach the Latin Literature of the 1st Century BC in Greats, and also undertake Latin literature and language teaching for Classics Mods (esp. Virgil and Texts & Contexts: options including Petronius, Catullus, Cicero; see University Regulations at www.classics.ox.ac.uk for details). It may also be an advantage to teach the Ovid paper. The Lecturer will be expected to assist with the administration of Classics in Balliol, including admissions, and setting and marking college examinations, and with the pastoral care of students.
Applications containing a CV, a statement of teaching and research experience, and the names of two referees should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. (Academic Administrator, Balliol College, Oxford OX1 3BJ) by Wednesday 18 May 2016. Candidates should ask their referees to write directly to the Academic Administrator by that date; it would be helpful if at least one referee could comment on the candidate’s teaching experience and abilities. It is expected that interviews will be held on Wednesday 25 or Thursday 26 May 2016.
An Equal Opportunities form must be completed.
